Purity Culture needs to be rectified
In the past few decades, church leaders that wanted to teach about sex and porn had great intentions to save people from the harms of sexual sin. However, the messaging often contained undertones of shame and guilt that led people into secrecy and addiction. This way of teaching became known as Purity Culture. There are beliefs from this era that have become ingrained in many of us that lead to lasting feelings of shame and guilt. Identifying the unintentional shame messaging from Purity Culture can give us a new freedom when talking about anything related to sex.
