When I was born in the 80’s, few parents were looking for effective sex ed. At that point, parents were happy to give ‘the talk’ and check it off. Maybe a prominent author’s book, taking their kids to youth group, and a hopeful class on health felt sufficient.
They had little to zero interest in talking about porn or sexuality, other than ‘don’t do it’ messaging.
Eventually, this way of life left a lot of people up a creek without a paddle, as my Southern mother (pictured) would say.
In 2025, we now have a billion-dollar porn industry, an addicted-to-porn epidemic, Netflix soft porn, sexualized ads marketed towards kids, sextortion and sexting long an issue in social media, regular use of ‘OnlyFans’, and a rampant lack of sex ed in the home.
